Thumbs-up

The thumb is healing nicely, not fully healed but x-rays this past Wednesday show it is doing what it should.

Here are some pictures.  These first 2 were 1 week after he broke it.  I'm amazed by the distinct line on his thumb separating normal coloring and red.

And here is today, 4 weeks from the day he broke it.  Very bruised and still lots of red dots on the back of his thumb.  The doctor is thinking the nail might not actually fall off.  I'll keep crossing my fingers.

He still has to wear his splint to school for 1 1/2 more weeks and then no brace for 2 more weeks before we go back for what will hopefully be his final x-rays.  At home though, he is splint free.  It's funny though, because he still is holding his thumb stiff so often.  I have to remind him to practice bending it a bit or to actually use it.
The good news is that he can get back to recess and sports and if it snows again (heaven help us), sledding.
