We prepped all week for Winter Storm Nemo--they warned us it would be significant. Friday school was cancelled virtually all around the state. The snow began around 8:30am on Friday and it didn't stop til around noon on Saturday. By Friday at dinner, we only had about 5 inches. Then in started dumping on us.
Here's sad Whitney. Friday was one of her very blah sick days.
I love this picture. Nothing in her had the energy to go out in the snow, but she was happy to sit and watch the others. When they moved to the backyard, Whit moved and sat in the kitchen.
Around 8:30 Friday night, Matt thought he needed to get out with the snowblower and get the driveway while he could so it would have some of the snow gone in the morning. We were surprised that even by 8:30 we had about a foot--it was coming down fast.
This is the night time snow blower cut. A good foot.
Saturday morning we woke up to an UNREAL amount of snow. We were so lucky we didn't lose power.
Here is Matt's car--I promise...it's 100% buried.
This was done with me leaning out the kitchen window. By the time the snow stopped we had 1 or 2 more inches there. I think the grand total for Tolland was 33". The drifts made it really hard to measure accurately. Some spots were as high as me.
It took at least an hour for us to actually find Matt's car. It took 7+ man hours (with a snowblower involved) to clear the driveway and the car--3 hours for me, 4 for Matt. Ridiculous!
All the kids made it out for a bit. Whit and Annie only made it about 25 minutes. Both were back on the sofa by evening, still sick. Hard to play though when you can't really walk. Andrew dug out tunnels all through the yard with our neighbor. They had lots of paths to walk on.
Good thing Matt snowblowed on Friday night. Check out how high the snow was on Saturday!! It was taller than the snowblower by several inches. In a lot of parts, I had to go through and knock down the snow with the shovel and then Matt could go over it with the blower.
The girls on our front stairs. The snow was as high as the hand rail.
No school on Monday or Tuesday as a result of the storm. We got lucky though...some parts of CT were out of school all week. My neighbors mom couldn't get out of her door--it wouldn't open. When Jen arrived on Sunday, she said the drift on the door was up to her armpits. Crazy stuff!
